Why Plant a Tree?

Though they're not the only ones, here are a dozen reasons to plant a tree.

  1. Provides shade and shelter for wildlife and domestic animals

  2. Beautifies the village (curb appeal)

  3. Keeps property values from declining

  4. Helps hold soil in place

  5. Blocks wind

  6. Absorbs sound

  7. Helps clean the air - a growing tree removes as much as 26 pounds of carbon dioxide from the air each year

  8. Assures the development of rain clouds

  9. Builds up soil with organic matter and maintains the water table

  10. Prevents land from becoming desert

  11. Strategically planted trees can reduce the heating and cooling needs of the village residents - less fuel will be burned and less carbon dioxide will be released into the atmosphere

  12. Offers something to future generations
