Minutes of Last Meeting

The minutes from the last meeting were approved.

Old Business:

Grant from DEC-the committee is waiting to hear about the contract for the grant. Brenda Cagle will continue to follow-up. There seems to also be a confusion as to whether we will get the matching funds in one amount or as we spend it, in several pieces,.

Treasurers Report -No treasurers report was available at the meeting. Evelyn will have an updated report at the next meeting. We took in $280.00 at the Bakeless Bake Sale. The contributors will be added to our website. All thank you notes have been sent out.

New Business:

Tree Removals and Moves -We discussed the Highway Department’s list of 11 trees throughout the village that are earmarked for removal plus seven trees in Memorial Park. Also two London Plane trees planted in Memorial Park several years ago are now in the way of some flag poles and will need to be moved. It was decided to meet in Memorial Park following todays meeting to review the work which needs to be done. (This did take place.)

Fall Planting/Pruning – September 2nd has been designated to prune trees. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Village Hall. Twenty-one trees need to be pruned, hopefully with three teams of two people each this work will be completed quickly. Brenda Cagle brought up the subject of planting native plants around the trees of the village parking lot. After a short discussion it was decided to do this on the same day as the tree pruning and that we will inquire if the Garden Club might be able to help with the planting.

Because Park Avenue and Firehouse Lane are yet not ready to have trees planted Brenda suggested that we concentrate on Route 9 for our fall tree planting. We need to decide quickly on the planting sites in order to send property owners permission letters and place our tree order.

Update of Database – Brenda brought up the fact that we need to update the spreadsheet which lists the condition and inventory of our street trees. She will contact Lou Sebesta, the State Forester to ask for his assistance. She suggested that we concentrate on the main streets of Routes 9 and 199.

Motion to Close Meeting

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m. and to reconvene at Memorial Park directly.

Next Meeting:

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday September 19, 2006 at 7:00 PM at the Village Building.
