Tuesday,
November 16, 2004 Minutes
Attendees:
Brenda Cagle, Catherine Dickert, Jean Duntz, Jennifer Fivelsdal, Jan Schiff
Open the
Meeting
- The
meeting was called to order at 6:07 p.m. by Brenda Cagle.
Minutes of Last Meeting
- The minutes from the October 19, 2004 meeting were
reviewed
and approved.
Greens Committee (Brenda):
- Old Business:
-
The tree planting was held
on October 30th. About 30 people attended the
planting and the dedication service. We planted 6
park trees and 4 street trees.
- Pruning and tree
removal has begun on village trees.
- We had trouble finding
places for our last batch of street trees. We need to
improve communication with home owners in order to
increase the likelihood that they will accept the trees.
- New Business:
- We started thinking
about how to carry out our yearly tree inventory.
We plant to re-inventory 1/5 of our trees each year.
We need to schedule training with a forester to learn
how to perform the inventory. This inventory
assesses the condition of trees. We also keep
other tree data in an Excel spreadsheet. We
brainstormed on how to get more volunteers to help us
with the inventory. Possible volunteers include
boy scouts, Bard students, and vo-tech students.
Communications Committee:
Fundraising Committee:
New Business:
- We brainstormed new ways to raise
funds. Some ideas include using Agway to test soil for
residents and a bakeless bake sale. Both ideas could be
advertised in the water bill.
Additional Business
- We decided against planning a potluck
dinner before the end of the year due to members' scheduling conflicts.
- There are still some trees in the
village that have bricks around their bases and the bricks need to be
removed. We will plan to do this in the spring.
- Catherine will take Mark Merrit's
place as an officer in 2005.
Motion to Close Meeting
- The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
Next Meeting
- No meeting will be held in December. Our next meeting will be held on
Tuesday, January 18th, at 7:00 p.m. in the village hall.
