Meetings

Tuesday, September 21, 2004 Minutes

Attendees: David Seymour, Brenda Cagle, Evelyn Krueger, Catherine Dichert, Franceska Urbin, Linda Anderson, Harold Fell

Open the Meeting

  • The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.

Minutes of Last Meeting

  • The minutes from the July 20 and August 24, 2004 meetings were not discussed.

Greens Committee (Brenda):

  • Old Business:
    • Greenspace Enterprises and Integral Landscaping have been hired to do the village's tree maintenance.  Work should begin in a few weeks.  The trees brought to our attention by the highway superintendent were addressed in the work plan given to Integral.
    • Right-of-way issues were discussed.  It was agreed that the village should not tackle tree maintenance that is not within the right-of-way.  The mayor, Dave Cohen, searched for right-of-way maps and found none.  He has suggested 20 feet as a "rule of thumb" on village streets.  The state is not responsible for tree maintenance within village limits.
  • New Business:
    • Harold Fell, Abraham's Park superintendent, requested that 6 commemorative trees be planted in the park.  They will be swamp white oaks.  One donor wants the bluestone marker provided by Dave Cohen.  Evelyn will order the stone.  Cost to donors of trees was determined by the actual cost of the tree plus $100 to cover labor, gator bags, mulch, etc.  Therefore the total cost for these trees is $211 each.
    • Two dead trees on Phillips Street and one cracked tree on W. Market Street are on our work plan, but may not be within the right-of-way.  Dave, Evelyn, and Brenda will measure the distances.
    • The trees for Abraham's Park have been ordered and will arrive late October.  The replacement trees from Adams have been requested.  Brenda is waiting for a final answer.
    • Brenda found another source of trees in Kinderhook that is willing to provide our trees "at cost".  The committee wants to try ordering from them in the spring.

Communications Committee (Mark Meritt):

  • No report.

Fundraising Committee (Evelyn Krueger):

  • New Business:
    • Evelyn discussed the possibility of having another Bakeless Bake Sale, because it was so successful this year.  She suggested January for the date.
    • Catherine volunteered to look out for grants for the Village Green, because she reviews grants at work.
  • Old Business:
    • The village tree fund has $13,500.
    • Village Green money allotted by the village is $3920.
    • An updated total of the money raised through fundraising was not available.  It should be the same as last month's amount, which was $5324.98.

Additional Business

  • No new additional business was reported.

Motion to Close Meeting

  • The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

Next Meeting

  • Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 19th, at 7:00 p.m. in the village hall.
