Meetings

Tuesday, May 25, 2004 Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Evelyn Krueger, Franceska Urbin, Brenda Cagle, Jan Schiff

Open the Meeting

  • Brenda opened the meeting at 7:03 p.m.

Minutes of Last Meeting

  • The minutes from the April 20, 2004, meeting were not available for review.

Greens Committee (Brenda):

  • Old Business:
    • All trees were planted by volunteers on April 24, 2004.  One tree did not survive.  It was noted that some of these were planted on sites not designated as "planting sites" in the tree inventory database.  Future planting plans should consider this designation beforehand.
    • Two trees that were planted last year were purchased from Adams in Kingston.  Karen Cadorette is going to check with them about replacing the trees.
  • New Business:
    • Chris Staubi and Brenda have updated the tree inventory database with Lou Sebesta's evaluation of our trees of concern.  Brenda will prepare a  bid request from the database comments and submit it to at least 3 tree service companies.  She will also talk with Dan Streib about the proposed work.
    • There are questions about village right-of-way and liability.  It was suggested that the village attorney be invited to a meeting to discuss this.
    • Lou Sebesta is available to present a Citizen Pruning Workshop in June.  June 15, the date of our next scheduled meeting, was selected as the tentative date.  The time will be from 6:00-8:30 p.m.  Brenda will confirm with Lou.  The public will be invited.
    • There will be a work morning on Saturday, May 29, 9:00 a.m., to add top soil and to water newly planted trees, and to mulch other trees.

Communications Committee (Mark Meritt via note):

  • Old Business:
    • Visitation statistics have been available on the website since 02/08/04.  We've been averaging about 2 visits per day since tracking began.
  • New Business:
    • Web updates have been completed successfully without Richard.
    • Evelyn requested copies of articles, but Jeanne Duntz (archivist) also has a standing request for articles.  We should either have one person who collects all articles, and the other should make sure to go to that person for the articles, or we should encourage both Evelyn and Jeanne to connect with each other to be sure that they both get all articles.

Fundraising Committee (Evelyn Krueger):

  • Old Business:
    • Our Village Green fund totals $5324.98.
    • Our village budget fund is currently $0.00.  $4000.00 will be added to this fund on June 1st.
    • Franceska received a response to the letter that she wrote to Governor Pataki requesting funding.  We will be notified of an upcoming grant program.
    • The deadline to hear about the Greenway grant is June 9th.
    • Evelyn is working on the Hudson River Estuary grant, due at the end of June.  Funds will be requested for our maintenance needs and will include the preparation we have done so far (for example, the tree inventory database).  She needs a count of volunteer hours from those who worked on the forestry management plan.  She also needs an estimate from a tree service.
  • New Business:
    • Evelyn is still hopeful about getting Dar Williams to do a benefit performance in the future.

Additional Business

  • Jan expressed a concern that homeowners are not watering their newly planted trees.

Motion to Close Meeting

  • Evelyn made a motion to close the meeting at 7:58 p.m. Franceska seconded the motion.
