Minutes of Last Meeting

bulletThe minutes from the February 16, 2004, meeting were accepted with no changes required.

Greens Committee (Brenda Cagle):

bulletFranceska Urbin wrote a letter to the legislature regarding our concern that money set aside in the governor's budget for community forestry grants is available only to communities that have a population greater than 65,000 people. She distributed copies for review. Please get back to Franceska if you have any comments or suggestions.
bulletBrenda contacted the nursery used by Cornell University regarding the possibility of ordering bareroot trees.
bulletNeed to place our order by the end of March.
bulletOrder will be shipped the third week in April to Albany to avoid extra freight.
bulletA 1-3/4 inch caliper bareroot tree costs about $69.00
bulletMay plant 13-15 new trees to backfill those that were cut down in the fall and those that have died.
bulletMust plant the trees within 2-3 days of receiving them.
bulletExtra cost to consider is the mulch.
bulletNeed to follow up with the nursery to see if they have a guarantee for these trees.
bulletNeed to ensure that the stumps are removed before the spring planting, as we will be planting some trees at these sites. David Seymour will follow up with this and get closure.
bulletLou Sebesta will be here on Friday to look at the remaining trees that need attention in the village.
bulletIntegral submitted a bid for work re requested in Memorial Park and Abraham's Park. A decision was made to go ahead with the work.
bullet$350 to rotate and transplant a tree on the southeast side of Memorial Park that is bent over Route 9. A suggestion was made to have Lou look at the tree on Friday and recommend whether it is worth it to invest this cost, or if we should just let NYS cut it down.
bullet$900 to have about 9 trees pruned in Memorial Park.
bullet$490 to have some trees trimmed in Abraham's Park.
bulletBrenda will present our Forestry Management Plan to the Village Board on Tuesday, March 30th, to get their approval before the formal presentation on Friday, April 2nd. At that meeting, David will request that the budget and responsibility for tree removal and pruning be moved under the umbrella of the Village Green Committee.
bulletWe need to work with Dan Streib to get a list of the trees that have been identified as hazardous in the village.
bulletChris Staubi will work with Karen Cadorette to get an estimate on the cost of purchasing ID tags for the village trees.
bulletDavid determined that we cannot cable trees in the village due to liability issues.
bulletWe reviewed the Forestry Management Plan and offered suggestions to Brenda.

Communications Committee (Mark Meritt):

bulletThere is an error in the About Town listing again. Mark worked with them to ensure that it is correct for the summer edition.
bulletRichard Wambach explained to Mark that he cannot give us the password to the website to do our own updates because the password is for the entire village website. David will ask the Village Board to approve giving Mark the password.
bulletWe have about 17 positive RSVPs so far for the kickoff meeting. The RSVP deadline will be extended one week due to the small numbers. Evelyn Krueger will e-mail the kickoff press release to the Bard community to drum up interest.
bulletWe began planning our Arbor Day celebration. Evelyn agreed to work with Chris to plan the event. The following suggestions were made:
bulletGet members from the Communications Committee to help with the planning.
bulletDedicate the commemorative trees during the event.
bulletHold a poster contest.
bulletGet the "Who Cares" kids to involved with the event.
bulletInvestigate planting on Linden Ave. a small tree farm that will be maintained by the middle school children.

Fundraising Committee (Evelyn Krueger):

bulletFinancial status:
bulletOur Village Green fund totals $5348.48.
bulletOur village budget fund totals $1873.16. These funds must be spent before the end of May or we lose them.
bulletWe will find out whether or not we got the Greenway grant at the beginning of June.

Additional Business

bulletNone.
