Meetings
Tuesday, December
16, 2003 Meeting Minutes
Attendees: David Seymour, Evelyn Krueger, Mark Meritt, Brenda Cagle,
Christina Staubi, Jean Duntz.
Open the Meeting:
 | Mark Meritt opened the meeting at 6:58
p.m. |
Minutes of Last Meeting:
 | The minutes from the November 18, 2003,
meeting were accepted with no changes required. |
Greens Committee (Brenda Cagle):
 | Christina Staubi, Karen Cadorette, and
Brenda attended a free workshop sponsored by Cornell University in
Millbrook called “Urban Forestry Master Planning for Small Communities”.
We reviewed our tree inventory data during this workshop and received the
data on CD. Some highlights from the data include:
 | Red Hook tree inventory is valued at
over $2.5M. |
 | Red Hook trees remove approximately
20,000 pounds of carbon from the air each year. |
 | Red Hook is the 4th community in the
country with this data. |
|
 | Greens committee will meet before our
next general meeting to more thoroughly review the data and begin
formulating a master plan for 2004. |
 | It was also suggested that the Greens
committee create a presentation to showcase the tree inventory data and
master plan, and consider giving this presentation to the Village Board
and during the 2004 Kickoff meeting. |
 | Village Green was invited to give a
presentation at the Forestry Council Conference in mid-July. We could use
this same presentation. |
 | Need to investigate planting bare-root
trees for the spring planting. This could be more cost efficient. |
 | Investigate acquiring a software program
that will allow us to plot tree locations on a map. Perhaps MapLynx? |
Fundraising Committee (Evelyn Krueger):
 | Evelyn created the flyer for the
“Bakeless Bake Sale”. The board members will meet at her house in December
to fold them. |
 | Brenda agreed to follow up with Integral
regarding their bill for the fall planting. |
 | Mark redesigned the form we will use to
make donations for trees and to request a tree. He will make this form
available on our website. We also need to make copies available in the
Village Hall. |
Communications Committee (Mark Meritt):
 | Brenda will prepare a press release
regarding the tree inventory data. |
 | The Village Green meetings were listed
in the winter edition of About Town. It did give the correct phone number,
however it listed the wrong day for our meeting (the last Tuesday of the
month instead of the 3rd Tuesday of the month). In addition, it did not
include our website. Mark will follow up with About Town and also ensure
that any other publications are accurate. |
 | Our website was updated with a picture
of the landscaping project for the Village Hall. It was also updated with
information regarding the fall planting. |
 | Communications Committee and the Greens
Committee need to start working on ideas for the 2004 Kickoff meeting. |
Additional business:
 | Need to try and partner up with Central
Hudson regarding tree removal. |
 | Jean Duntz presented the archive book,
which is up to date with all the information that was given to her. We
agreed that Jean should keep the archive book at her house, and we should
display it at special events. |
Next Meeting:
 | Tuesday, January 20th, at 7pm in the
Village Hall. |
Motion to Close Meeting:
 | Christina made a motion to close the
meeting at 7:31 p.m. Brenda seconded the motion. |
