Minutes

Attendees: Brenda Cagle, Jean Duntz, Joanna Fivelsdal, Linda Keeling, Evelyn Krueger, Jen Melitsky, Mark Meritt, Jan Schiff.

Open the Meeting:

bulletThe meeting was called to order by Mark Meritt at 7:02 p.m.

Minutes of Last Meeting:

bulletThe minutes from the August 26, 2003, meeting were accepted with no changes required.

Greens Committee (Brenda Cagle)

bulletMet 9/22. Fall planting sites have been selected. Got one cost estimate for the fall planting, getting another one, won’t be ready to plant on 10/4, will set a date once new estimate is in.
bulletWants to reduce the number of trees planted, based on advice of inventory group to focus on maintenance.
bulletLabor cost for planting a tree: $50.00 estimated. Someone should attend the Village Board meeting on 10/6 to get an official price.
bulletWon’t have final Cornell inventory data until workshop, to take place in November or December.
bulletVillage will continue to water the trees on Broadway.
bulletWill meet again soon to finalize fall planting.

Fundraising Committee (Evelyn Krueger)

bullet$5,462 in raised funds is available to supplement the money budgeted by the Village.
bulletA treasurer is required for the group.

Outreach Committee (Joanna Fivelsdal)

bulletNothing new was reported.

Media Committee (Mark Meritt)

bulletAbout Town next issue deadline is November 1. Mark will make a submission if cost is free or sufficiently low.

New Business:

bulletEvelyn provided drafts of a tree maintenance brochure and a commemorative gift form. Attendees will provide any feedback to her by Thursday, October 2. Outreach will hand out copies of the brochure to past tree recipients, while copies will also be distributed to new tree recipients during the fall planting.
bulletGreene County workshop requests a volunteer to speak about how we became a Tree City USA. Workshop is 1pm, October 23. Linda Keeling suggested we send a speech via videotape.
bulletJen Melitsky, a new member, is interested in participating in Outreach.
bulletEstimate provided by Integral for maintenance of trees in Memorial Park: $1,890.
bulletWe discussed creating a form to present to homeowners before planting a tree on their property. Homeowners would sign the form to acknowledge the upcoming planting. This could be the time to provide them with the maintenance brochure.

Next Meeting:

bulletTuesday, October 28th, at 7pm in the Village Hall.

bulletEvelyn made a motion to close. Linda seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
