Tuesday, March 18, 2003 Meeting
Minutes
Open the Meeting:
- Mark Meritt called the meeting to order
at 7:15pm. Evelyn Krueger chaired meeting.
Minutes of Last Meeting:
- The February Update minutes and the
minutes for the March 4, 2003, meeting were accepted with no changes
required.
Tree City USA presentation is scheduled
for Tuesday, April 22nd at 10:30 am:
- Decided to plant a Goldenrain tree
in Memorial Park. Karen Cadorette will order the tree and make sure
that it is at the site in time for planting.
- Still need to decide the exact
location of where we want to plant the tree and put a stake in the
ground to mark the site.
- Dave Seymour will have someone dig
the hole for the tree the day before the presentation.
- A suggestion was made that this tree
should be planted in addition to the 12 trees planned for the spring
planting. Everyone agreed.
- A reminder was made that we need to
start planting trees on the side streets this season.
- The Tree City USA presentation will
be made by Lou Sebesta, State forester, and Mary Kramarchyk, Volunteer
Coordinator Urban and Community Forestry Partnership, NYS.
- Clare Carr will present our out of
town guests with a copy of her book, Red Hook. A suggestion was made
to also give the guests a copy of the Walking Tour brochure. All
agreed.
- Following the ceremony, light
refreshments will be served at the Elmendorf.
- Linda Keeling volunteered to work
on refreshments. Please contact Linda if you want to help.
- Barbara Campo volunteered to call
Richard Coons to book the Elmendorf for the event.
- Barbara agreed to send out
invitations to the presentation. The following people will be
invited:
- Mayor
- Village Trustees and village
staff
- Town Supervisor
- Town board and town staff
- Patrick Manning, NYS Assembly
- Marcus Molinaro, The Historic
Watts dePeyster Hall
- Stephen M. Saland, NYS Senator
- Red Hook Rotary Club
- Red Hook Chamber of Commerce
- Of course, anyone else is
welcome to attend.
- The Media Committee will send
out a press release to cover the presentation.
Stewarts Shoppes Fundraiser
- Fundraiser will be held the
last week in April (4/21-4/27) at both Stewarts Shoppes in Red
Hook.
- Evelyn verified with Stewarts
that they will match dollar-for-dollar all donations received at
their two stores during that week, up to a maximum of $5000.
- We will campaign at the IGA on
Saturday, April 19th and Saturday, April 26th, (instead of the
12th and 19th) from 10am until 2pm to advertise for this event.
- Barbara Cagle and Brenda got
permission from the IGA for these days.
- The letter of solicitation
will be handed out on these days to campaign for donations.
- Divided each Saturday into 2
hour shifts.
- Saturday, April 19th:
- 10am-12pm: Dave and
Linda
- 12pm-2pm: Barbara and
Evelyn
- Saturday, April 26th:
- 10am-12pm: Mark and
Jen
- 12pm-2pm: Brenda and
Dave
- Others interested in
helping out should show up during those times.
- IGA may also provide
seedlings for us to distribute.
- A paragraph about the
Stewarts Shoppes fundraiser was added to the water bill.
- The Media Committee will
send out a press release to cover the Stewarts Shoppes
fundraiser.
Red Hook Arbor Day is scheduled for
Saturday, April 26th.
- We will plant our 12
trees on this day to celebrate.
- In addition, we will
be campaigning at the IGA for the Stewarts Shoppes
fundraisier and, on the previous Tuesday (April 22nd),
we will have our Tree City USA presentation.
We will hold a fundraiser at the Red Hook
Inn on Apple Blossom Day (Saturday, May 10th), from 2pm-6pm.
- Karen will ensure
that our fundraiser is included with the other
promotional material for Apple Blossom day.
- Mark agreed to play
the piano for entertainment.
- Christina Staubi and
Barbara agreed to ask Will Smith if one of his musical
groups would donate their time to play at the
fundraiser.
- Brenda agreed
to contact the Hudson Valley Folk guild to see if they
are available to play on that day.
- Jennifer Fivelsdal
will see if her husband and Jennifer are interested in
playing at the fundraiser.
We still need a "tree-mometer" available
by 4/19 to track our fundraising progress. Joanna agreed to ask the Red
Hook High School Environment Club for help.
Barbara is going to make a list of all the village businesses and bring it
to the next meeting. If you are interested in helping to solicit donations
from a particular business, please let Barbara know.
A reminder was made to take a look at the To-Do list. However, all agreed
that we should focus on to-do items related to the upcoming fundraising
events.
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 1st, at 7pm at the Village
Hall.

to close the meeting at 8pm. Evelyn seconded that
motion.
