Meetings

Tuesday, March 4, 2003 Meeting Minutes

Attendees:
Barbara Campo
Joanna Fivelsdal
Linda Keeling
Evelyn Krueger
David Seymour
Brenda Cagle

The focus was the Stewart's fundraiser and Arbor Day.
bulletEvelyn presented the revised letter that will be circulated to the
public, explaining our committee and requesting donations. Further
revisions were made and accepted.
bulletHow should the letter be distributed?
bulletLinda suggested asking the Gazette Advertiser to publish the letter in its entirety as their donation. It should be published on April 17.
bulletTell radio stations. WRWD was mentioned.
bulletHand out. Dave volunteered to distribute the letter when
campaigning door-to-door in March. He asked if the committee had a problem with this and all thought it was ok.  Joanna will ask the Red Hook High School Honor Society to join in the distribution efforts.
Committee members will meet at IGA (Brenda will ask IGA) on Sat., Apr 12 and Sat., Apr. 19 to organize/distribute. Staffing at IGA will be 10am - 2pm. Some members will distribute letters in the village.
bulletIn the past, IGA has given out trees in celebration of Arbor Day.  We will ask them about this when getting permission to hand out letters there.
bulletDressing up like trees was discussed. Maybe the "trees" should help
distribute letters.
bulletThere was confusion about the amount of money Stewart's is willing to donate. Evelyn will get clarification. It may be possible to get up to $5,000 in matching funds, bringing the total amount to $10,000.
bulletBrenda had contacted the Hudson Valley Folk Guild about entertainment for fundraising/celebrating. They were very agreeable and have approx. 100 performing members, several of whom live in the immediate vicinity.
They often perform for "worthy causes" and are willing to perform for little or no payment. It was decided that May 10, Apple Blossom Festival, would be the best time for this. Evelyn will ask the Red Hook Inn about availability for this date. Of course, our own Mark may be willing to perform for such an event. (See what happens when you're not at the meeting, Mark.)
bulletSelling compost bins as a fundraiser was discussed, since the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency is getting a truckload of them and selling them on Apr. 26 and they are willing to send some our way. The attendees felt this was not appropriate at this time - difficult to transport/store, what to do with leftover bins, etc.
bulletWe need a tree thermometer to gauge our fundraising efforts.  Joanna will ask the Red Hook High School Environmental Club if they will make this and will ask Williams Lumber to donate the wood. It is needed by April 19.
bulletWords (pertaining to Stewart's and Arbor Day) have been given to Cindy for the next water bill.
bulletOn Arbor Day, April 26, Linda suggested a ceremony in the Memorial
Park at 10am, complete with a dignitary from the Village Board, maybe a speaker, definitely a tree planting, etc. Evelyn is communicating with the Tree City USA people; hopefully, they can present the official Tree City USA flag that day.
bulletDid everyone know that Joanna's mom had prepared the food that we all enjoyed so much at Bard???? THANK YOU!!
bulletFor anyone who is interested, the deadline to order seedlings from the Dutchess County Soil and Water Conservation is Mar. 31. See their website, www.dutchess.ny.nacdnet.org;  click on "order form only" in upper left corner.
bulletNEXT MEETING: MARCH 18, 7PM, VILLAGE HALL (ALSO VILLAGE ELECTION DAY)
