Meetings
February Update
No
official meeting was held in February. Instead, the committees submitted
updates on their activities.
The
Fundraising Committee met at the home of Evelyn Krueger on February 6th.
 |
Stewarts has agreed to match any donations received during a selected week
in 2003. The fundraising committee designated the last week in April
(4/21-4/27) for this event. We will be soliciting donations at both
Stewarts Shoppes during this week. A letter will be distributed to inform
the public about this event. |
 |
The Fundraising Committee wrote a letter that will be used to thank donors
for their tax-deductible contributions. The letter also states that donors
should let us know if they do not want their name published on a donor
list. |
 |
There was a brief discussion about the Preservation League Grant. |
The
Greens Committee met at Billie’s Restaurant on February 18th.
 | We
will find out the location of trees removed in the past years. |
 |
April 26th is Red Hook Arbor Day, rain or shine. |
 |
Four male Ginko trees, 4 London Plane trees, and 4 Goldenrain trees were
chosen as the 12 more “stately” trees to be planted during Red Hook’s
Arbor Day (April 26th). Twelve more trees will be planted later
in the year. |
 | It
was decided that brass plaques to name and/or commemorate a tree at $92
each were too expensive. Other less expensive ways to identify a tree will
be researched. |
 |
The Greens Committee attended the Bard College presentation on February 25th.
 |
Received a request from one student to be apprised of the greens
committee projects. |
 |
Discovered that both David Seymour and Evelyn Krueger know where trees
were removed in the past years. |
 |
Decided that when the snow melts, we will have a field trip in the
village to identify the placement of our first 12 trees. |
|
The
Media Committee reported the following:
 |
Franceska Urbin talked to PANDA. The “PANDA Forum” program is available to
all local organizations. An episode is essentially given over to an
organization. There would be no interviewer – it would be entirely up to
us to do what we wanted with the air-time in terms of content, length (10
minutes to an hour), etc. We can also videotape a meeting or event for
later airing on PANDA. Franceska suggests that an ideal opportunity for
this would be a content-heavy event, such as a guest speaker at a meeting
or an Arbor Day event, and that we should make an effort to videotape it
as professionally as possible. |
 |
Mark Meritt will prepare a blurb for the April village water bill to
publicize our Arbor Day observance, including the Stewarts matching grant
week. Cindi Cole has requested that the blurb be submitted to her by
mid-March. |
On
February 25, 2003, in lieu of a general meeting, the Village Green hosted an
open dinner at Bard College. The Outreach Committee organized the event.
 |
Several Village Green members were present and Bard students could discuss
participation with the various committees. |
 |
Presentations by the committees were planned, but there was no point
during the event in which a number of students were there at one time, so
formal presentations were skipped. |
A number of students,
though, expressed their interest in getting involved with the Village
Green. The particular committees they signed up for will follow up as
appropriate with the students.
