Meetings

Tuesday, December 3, 2002 Meeting Minutes

  • Media Committee update — Mark S. Meritt
    • Web site up and running. All suggestions/corrections should go to Mark S. Meritt.
    • Clippings archive being maintained. Submit all Village Green
      clippings to Clare Carr.
    • Local media contact list being maintained by Clare Carr.

  • Fundraising Committee update — Linda Keeling, in the absence of
    Evelyn Krueger
    • Thank-you postcard created by Jennifer Norris. Discussed combining friendly thank-you note with tax receipt from the Village — all agreed that one letter should serve both purposes.
    • Creating a letter for local businesses and community groups. Once sent, cans will be put out to collect money at local sites. E.g., Stewarts, which offers matching funds up to $5,000.00, proved very successful for the local roller hockey group a couple of years ago.
    • Discussed memorial plaques — Karen Cadorette will research.
      • T-shirts for sale, $15.00 each, contact Evelyn Krueger.
      • Set $10,000.00 fundraising goal for 2003. Place thermometer near Information Station to generate participation.

  • Outreach Committee update — Joanna Fivelsdal
    • Suggested a dinner at Bard at which Village Green members could meet and present information to the Bard Community. Bard will provide the meal at no charge to us. Will plan for early in the spring semester.
    • Discussed a big festival event, similar to the Environmental
Awareness event put on at Mill Road school many years ago. Charge a small admission fee, sell vendor space (wood crafts, landscaping services, composting, etc), provide educational information and entertainment. Could be combined with an Arbor Day observance.
    • 4th grade, 7th grade and high school students are required to do community service. A good opportunity to get kids involved — plantings, festival, fundraising efforts, etc.

  • Greens Committee update — Karen Cadorette
    • Will put out preliminary bid for Village Hall landscaping project.
    • Will schedule a meeting for January to outline goals for 2003:
budget, plantings (goal: 24 trees, estimated at $300 each to purchase, plant and tend), tree selections, tree placement, timing of projects, additional planting projects.
    • Karen Cadorette will track down the name of the Central Hudson staff person we need to work with.

  • General
    • Discussed planting a tree in memory of Jane Knobloch, whose
contributions to community activities will be missed.
    • Brenda Cagle will advise the group of future Cornell urban tree
      conference opportunities.
    • Evelyn Krueger is developing stationery designs.
    • Evelyn Krueger developed an Arbor Day proclamation, which was signed by the mayor, as well as a draft mission statement.
    • Red Hook village fiscal year is June-July. We are unsure if funds ($2/capita village budget, approx. $3,800.00) can be released prior to June. This is the only year this should be a concern, since in future years we'll have money set aside from the previous year to see us through June.
